Flame retardants ban in furniture and carpeting
On 3rd September 2019, New Hampshire Governor signed Bill SB193 into law which bans sale or import of upholstered furniture containing more than 0.1% of flame retardants or their mixtures.
This bill also requests that manufacturer of upholstered furniture shall have a certificate of Compliance according to this requirement to submit to the authorities in a period of 30 days from its request.
The bill’s exemptions are:
- Used upholstered furniture.
- Upholstered furniture purchased for public use.
- New upholstered furniture imported or purchased by a retailer or wholesale before January 1, 2021.
- New upholstered furniture that is manufactured prior to January 1, 2020.
- Upholstered furniture which includes electronic or electric components.
This legislation took effect from 3rd September 2019.
